RECORD

 FOR HEALTH CARE -

  • Co-sponsored HB 4354 allowing West Virginians to deduct long-term care insurance premiums from their federal adjusted gross income.
  • Served on the Senate/House Conference Committee that helped establish the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
  • Actively supported local and additional state funding for HSTA (Health Sciences Technology Academy).
  • Directed funding for improvements at Rainelle Medical Center and the Northern Greenbrier Health Clinic.
  • Served on the conference committee that agreed on legislation to contain the high cost of prescription drugs.

FOR SENIORS -

  • Obtained funding for purchase of new Fairlea Senior Center and new roof on the Committee on Aging Office in Rupert.
  • Supported the increase in the Homestead Exemption to $30,000 for lower income taxpayers.
  • Introduced legislation to improve Homestead Exemption to $40,000 for lower income taxpayers and to give an increased Homestead Exemption for those seniors seeing dramtic increases in property taxes.
  • Obtained funding for the paving of the parking lot for the Committee on Aging facility in Rupert.

FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT -

  • Obtained funding for managed timberland supplement used by County Commission to help purchase industrial park.
  • Supported development of infrastructure through Frankford, Renick, PSD #2, and Caldwell-Monroe Draft water projects.
  • Lead sponsor of the bill that named I 64 a technology corridor.
  • Member of the Legislative Committee on Medical Malpractice Insurance that helped lauch reforms in our Medical Liability statutes to let our doctors stay in West Virginia.
  • Member of the Select Legislative Work Group that hammered out the Worker Compensation Reforms.
  • Lead Sponsor for the Resolution in 2006 session naming Greenbrier Valley Theatre the West Virginia Year Round Professional Theatre.
  • Lead House Sponsor of the House Version of the Bill in the 2009 session(The same as Senate Bill Passed) that rewrote the Greenbrier Gaming Legislation and established the Human Resource Benefit Fund for the benefit of all Greenbrier Employees.
  • Lead Sponsor of House Bill in 2010 session that passed that authorizes the establishment of the small, women, or minority owend business program that established reciprocity with the state of Virginia ans allows WV businesses that had lost contracts with the State of Virginia to reestablish those.

FOR EDUCATION -

  • Supported over $2 million in additional funds over the years for capital improvements and special projects to WVSOM, Greenbrier College of New River and Community Technical College and Greenbrier County schools.
  • Lead sponsor of the legislation that fully funded and stabilized the Promise Scholarship Program and provided further funding to the Higher Education Grants Program.
  • Helped guide the legislation to move West Virginia Tech to full division status of West Virginia University.
  • Leader in obtaining funding for the FFA curing facility at Greenbrier East High School.
  • Helped insert $180,000 in 2009 state budget to help the Greenbrier County Commission open the swimming pool at Greenbrier Community College.
  • Leader in Bond Funding for WVSOM and New River Community and Technical College.
